St. Mary’s, Ferbane
During the 18th century, there was a thatched chapel on the Ballycumber Road, previously known as “Old Chapel Lane”. There were plots of land there called “Chapel Field” and “Priest’s Park”. In 1820 a new chapel was built on the present site, then known as Lilly’s Park.
This church was replaced in 1896. It was renovated in 1976 and again in 1997. It has an Adoration Chapel, beautiful bog oak pieces and a Historical Faith Area.
Church of Ss. Patrick & Saran, High Street
In 1832 a church was built in High Street.
This now serves as a Community Centre for people of the area, having being replaced by the present church in 1962. The church was rededicated in 1976.
St. Oliver Plunkett, Boora
The church of St. Oliver Plunkett, Boora, was built in 1974 and consecrated by Cardinal Cody, Archbishop of Chicago in 1976. This was the first church to be built in Boora. Before that the local people’s place of worship was in a Bord na Mona Hostel.
